There’s something about watches !

Past year I have bought a Casio Protrek (PRG-40) in Emmen, NL. This watch has a lot of functions including a thermometer, compass and barometer. Because I am very satisfied with my previous watch which was a G-shock from Casio, I considered buying that watch. The watch costed 250 Euros which is a fair amount of money for a watch.

The watch looks sturdy, which I really need. Any other watches I have die after 3-4 months, just like my shoes and clothes; that’s why I buy less in quantity but more in quality.

In the beginning when I bought the watch there was one problem, which appeared to be normal (to my opinion). A button was a lil bit looser than the other buttons.

I have a lot of pleasure with the watch, it looks (and is) very sturdy but at 15 september 2003 it died completely. NONE of the buttons where working. I brought it back in and asked if this could be repaired under warranty and I immediately had the answer the watch probably has collected dirt, which does not fall under warranty what-so-ever.

I delivered the watch at 15 october 2003, waited for a full month and the buttons (and glass/wristband because of usage) and it was still not in, which brought me to a friend who repairs/sells watches. He replaced the batteries in the watch and said the button was loose because of a missing “clip”. That missing clip is a manufacturers error and is supposed to be under warranty.

I searched for the support site and it seems “Tapernoux” in Brussels is the official sale distributor for Casio. I sent an email to Casio (via the support site) and to Tapernoux and never got any Email back.

Today, I contacted them and I had the pleasure to talk to a lady who could absolutely not help me over the phone. I explained that clip was missing and in no way she wanted to help me further if this is under manufacturers defects or not.

Now, according the warranty in casio’s booklet, provided with the watch, the watch is covered under warranty if there is any manufacturers defect. I already paid 250 EUROS for it and now it seems to be I need to pay almost 100 EUROS extra because the watch died after +/- 6 months.

Talking about a piece of sh*t if it is going to cost me 100 EUROS every half year ?!?!?

What’s wrong with customer service these days? I got sent away, tomorrow I will have my watch back (I AM GLAD! after almost 2 1/2 months of waiting!) repaired, but fully paid by me.

This rant is about a certain manufacturer, called Casio, who does not comply to it’s own warranty. There is no customer support at all by email and the only thing I hear is that I need to send in the watch and pay for the parts & hours of repair. Is this customer service ? I find to be treated unrightfully and this will be the place where I put my rant about watches …

Cu next time!
